Video games used to be a single purchase.
You bought the disc, maybe a strategy guide, and that was it. The spending stopped at the checkout counter.
That’s not how blockbuster launches work anymore. The biggest games now come with soundtracks, editions, consoles and merchandise, each with its own price tag.
Grand Theft Auto VI is the biggest of them all. Fans have waited more than a decade for it, and plenty of brands want a piece of launch day.
Now one of the world’s biggest sneaker companies appears to be lining up. And its shoes may cost you more than the game.
Travis Scott, Rockstar Games and Nike (NKE) are reportedly releasing three Air Force 1 Low sneakers to mark the launch of GTA 6, according to Sneaker Files.
Each pair is listed at $130 and is expected to drop on Nov. 19, the same day the game launches. The shoes are expected to launch via Nike’s SNKRS app and select retailers.
The pack reportedly comes in three colorways:

The black pair features Scott’s signature reverse Swoosh, a GTA-themed money band on the toe and six stars on the heel, Sneaker Files reported.
There’s an important caveat. Neither Rockstar nor Nike has confirmed the collaboration. The details first surfaced through a Romanian sneaker community and were picked up by Sole Retriever, The Express Tribune reported.
Here’s the part that matters for your wallet.
GTA 6 costs $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, TheStreet reported, citing Rockstar. A single pair of the reported sneakers costs $130.
More GTA 6:
By my math, one pair runs about $50 more than the standard game, or 63% more. Even the Ultimate Edition is $30 cheaper than the shoes.
Here’s what a launch-day haul could cost, before tax and shipping:
That last total is nearly five times the price of the game’s most expensive edition.
Nike needs hits right now.
The company’s revenue fell 4% to $11.2 billion in its fiscal first quarter, which ended Aug. 31, according to its earnings release. Nike expects full-year revenue to decline by a high-single-digit percentage.
Limited collaborations are one of the few places where demand often outruns supply. A Travis Scott shoe tied to the most anticipated game in years fits that playbook.
Scott already has a link to the game. His song “Rhyno” is on the official GTA 6 soundtrack, Sneaker Files reported.
For Take-Two Interactive (TTWO), which owns Rockstar, a launch-day sneaker turns the game into a broader cultural event. That kind of buzz is hard to buy with advertising.
If you want the shoes, I’d plan for a fight, not a checkout.
Hyped Travis Scott releases often run through SNKRS draws or timed drops, and limited pairs can sell out quickly. Many end up on resale sites at higher prices.
Here’s how I’d approach it:
For most fans, the game is the main event. The sneakers are the expensive souvenir, and they may be harder to get than the game itself.
