The Big Three Compete for Automotive Supremacy in Detroit!
As the American car industry fights to hold on to its last leg in the global market, Detroit’s Big Three automakers, Ford, GM, and Chrysler, have been hard at work attempting to shift their seemingly outdated production models to one that can better compete with the likes of foreign automakers like Hyundai, Honda, and Toyota. With the advent of the next generation of the car industry and the rising consumer demand for eco-friendly and automated cars, these manufacturers have thrown their hats into the ring to compete for the top spot within the industry.
Ford has had the most success so far with the introduction of their plug-in hybrid model, the Fusion, and their all-electric Mustang Mach-E. The new models have seen immense success, as they have low emissions, provide economically viable options for customers, and offer features like electric powertrains, self-driving technology, and smart car connectivity. GM has followed suit with the deployment of their autonomous Chevy Bolt and Cadillac Lyriq. With these two vehicles, GM has been able to provide customers with a luxury electric vehicle option that comes with higher-end technologies and a higher price tag than the Fusion and Mustang Mach-E.
Chrysler, however, has seen the least success within the Big Three in terms of their next-generation model production. Although they recently invested heavily in their new Pacifica minivan, which offers hybrid options and autonomous driving capabilities, their sales have been significantly lower than those of their rivals. In an attempt to stay competitive, Chrysler is now in the process of developing a new electric van and has unveiled the Chrysler Portal, which will feature next-generation technology like self-driving capabilities, smart infotainment systems, and autonomous parking.
Ultimately, the Big Three have shifted their focus to compete within the next generation of the car industry head-on. Ford and GM have seen the most success with their newly released models, as they provide customers with reliable, affordable, and eco-friendly options. Chrysler is currently in the midst of their electric van production, which will hopefully give them the push they need to stay in the game. Whether they can stay competitive with their rivals in the long run, however, remains to be seen.
